Yome Udoka, coach of the Boston Celtics, has been suspended by the team after it was confirmed that he had a consensual relationship with one of the organization’s staff workers. The length of the suspension has not yet been released, but it could be for the entire 2022-2023 NBA season, one season after he led the team to the league finals.

The journalist Adrian Wojnarowski revealed that the coach, despite the fact that he could be suspended for a whole year, It is not believed that he will be fired for what he would return for the 2023-2024 season with the Boston franchise.

Udoka broke one of the rules he has as a coach and employee of the Celtics having an intimate relationship with a staff worker. It has not yet been revealed who the staff worker is and if she will be fired for her fault.

In the absence of official confirmation, Joe Mazulla, assistant coach, would remain as interim coach during Udoka’s suspension as coach.

Ime Udoka is a 47-year-old former NBA player who made his debut as head coach of the Boston Celtics last season after working as an assistant for the San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets. In his first year in charge, he led the Boston team to its first finals in the last 12 years.

Udoka is the fifth coach in the last 25 years to reach the NBA Finals in his first season as head coach and the first since Nick Nurse in 2019.

Udoka is married to the actress Nia Long with whom he has a relationship of more than 10 years and a son. Long is famous for her role as Lisa Wilkes as Will Smith’s girlfriend in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

The Celtics coach has not yet made a statement to the press pending the suspension decision that will be revealed this Thursday, just a week before the NBA preseason begins.
